Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been won on hard courts

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his first trophy for nearly 30 months with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

Medvedev, a former number one, has experienced a difficult period, managing just one win at the Grand Slams and undergoing a setback at the US Open.

The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serve in particular - caused him dropping out of the top ten and finally separating with former trainer Cervara.

Currently training with Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually progressed in the past month - culminating in a closely contested three-set victory over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This represents the player's initial title after the Rome competition and initial on a hardcourt since March of the previous year.

Victory also indicates Medvedev has won 21 titles at twenty-one various events.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a tournament with my children together, so to win a championship is particularly special," commented world number 14 the champion.

"This championship is in dedication of my second daughter her name, because the initial championship I achieved when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his last six finals, comprising in Halle in the past months.

The player's counter-punching approach and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had caused commentators to doubt if his capacity to perform at the elite level was over.

However the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and perform positively, backed up by an enhanced serve.

The champion recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the difficult opponent, taking 4 of the final five points to go ahead.

The pair traded break points in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his first tour title, seized the initiative to create a third set.

The opponent rescued four early break points in a tight third set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Appropriately, the winner earned the title with a shot at the net area, with the Frenchman unable to control a volley after a lengthy match.
